What We Do > Communication

Communication

At DGT, we understand that as a customer, getting fast and precise information is vital. Communication is not just answering email or the phone; it is also giving all the information needed in a precise, concise, and professional manner. We pride ourselves in our communication and making sure we can react to changes in requirements or new issues quickly and smoothly. Our customers have consistently complimented our members for their fast, 24 hour turnaround time, and solid English ability. All of our project managers speak excellent English and have a solid grasp of western culture, having spent a great deal of time overseas with both study and work. A strong line of communication with our clients allows for a steady flow of information, keeps them in the loop, and DGT's ability to handle issues as they arise and before they can escalate.

For large meetings, the common communication tool between DGT global sites are phone conferences at multiple sites (Beijing, Shanghai, Japan, US)

Between DGT Shanghai and DGT Beijing, video conferences are used almost daily for various projects to give a more personal relationship that unifies the teams.

Messaging is used amongst the engineers to discuss minor issues and more ad-hoc conversations. It also provides a better awareness of team members' availabilities.

E-mail is the most frequent tool for communication between project teams and customers around the world because it provides the flexibility against time differences. We pride ourselves in with our quick responses because of our 24 hour reply policy.

In some of the projects, issues are tracked with bug tracking tools that allow both the customer and the DGT team to manage the issues and resolutions.

Regardless of your location, DGT will ensure that you are always updated with the latest development information and issues with weekly summary reports that geared towards managing the project.

Time Difference Management

In addition to our various means of communication, DGT can also help resolve any time zone differences by adapting to a schedule that best fits you. DGT has a multi-shift system that will ensure that you can reach us at your convenience.

  • North America
In our experience, for co-development effort, the time difference is a good buffer. Normally this pattern works well for coding and testing. One site is debugging while the other site is off and doesn't have to wait. However, teleconferences for both sites need to be arranged prior to meetings usually determined by case-by-case basis. In general for US western coastal sites, China sites use a 'morning' shift (7:00A.M. - 9:00A.M.) for teleconference with US sites, where is 4:00P.M. - 6:00P.M. in the afternoon on the West Coast. For US eastern costal sites, China sites will use an 'evening' shift (9:00P.M. - 11:00P.M.), when it is 8:00A.M. - 10:00A.M. for the East Coast.
  • Europe
Europe is approximately 7 hours ahead of China (Beijing) local time. The best time for teleconferencing is 9:00 ~ 13:00 Europe time, which is 16:00 ~ 21:00 Beijing time.
  • Asia/Pacific
With only one hour difference, the time difference is rarely an issue and projects are executed as if the locations are in the same time zone.

Multi-site Management

DGT has set up a centralized server to store source code from multiple locations. All teams connect to this server check in/out source code via secure network connection which helps manage the configuration of the source code.

The designated DGT program manager handles onsite and offsite/offshore resource coordination via regular and ad-hoc phone conferences and through e-mail.
